Description
Kadalai Mittai is one of India’s most iconic traditional candies, with roots deeply embedded in Southern culinary history. While “Chikki” is the general term for this brittle across India, the South Indian version—particularly from Kovilpatti in Tamil Nadu—is legendary for its unique flavor. This specialty even holds a Geographical Indication (GI) status, attributed to the local peanuts grown in black soil and the use of specific types of jaggery syrup. Unlike western brittles that may use butter or corn syrup, this version relies on the purity of jaggery, which provides an earthy sweetness and a cleaner nutritional profile.
